... was just one of the many pen names used by Charles Harold St. John Hamilton (1876–1961). He used it for the stories that featured his most famous creation, Billy Bunter of Greyfriars School. He also wrote westerns as Ralph Redway, romances as Winston Cardew, and stories about other schools as Martin Clifford and Owen Conquest.
According to Wikipedia, Hamilton "is estimated to have written about 100 million words in his lifetime ... and has featured in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most prolific author." One hundred million words is the equivalent of around one thousand full–length novels.
